What you need
- Chalk or masking tape
- Paper and pencil for writing instructions
- Arrow cards (optional)
Setup
- Mark out a simple grid of squares on the ground with chalk or tape
- Place a start square and an end square, with an obstacle or two in between
- Write or lay out a sequence of arrows (forward, left, right) to guide a toy or a sibling through it
Play prompts
- Can you write the exact steps needed to reach the end without bumping the obstacle?
- What happens if we run your instructions in the wrong order?
- Can you find a shorter set of instructions to the same finish?
Ways to change it up
- Use a toy robot or remote-control car instead of a person
- Add a 'bug' on purpose and have the other player debug it
Safety notes
- Keep the grid clear of trip hazards
