- Chalk
- A toy or a person to stand still
- Sunny outdoor spot
Setup
- Choose a sunny spot on the driveway or patio
- Stand a toy or person still and trace its shadow outline with chalk, noting the time
- Come back every hour or two and trace the new shadow in a different colour
Play prompts
- Has the shadow moved? Which way?
- Is the shadow longer or shorter than this morning?
- Can you guess what time it is by looking at the shadow?
Ways to change it up
- Do it across a whole day and compare all the tracings at bedtime
